The Next Level in Opening Up

next-level-opening-upWhen we would have to choose a ‘perfect’ client, it would be one that has the same ambition that we have: being out there on the frontier, doing stuff others haven’t done before. I’m pleased to announce that we have found one: Nokia, already keen on co-creation, is going to stretch its boundaries when it comes to opening up to the public.

We are currently involved in a co-creation project organised around the Maemo Summit. Maemo – for those of you who are as software-illiterate as I am –  is an open source software platform. The Maemo platform – which has over 16.000 members - has been developed by Nokia in collaboration with many open source projects such as the Linux, Debian and GNOME. Every year, the Maemo Community organises the Maemo Summit. This October it will be held in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

So what is so special about this co-creation project? In previous projects, Nokia has developed ideas and concepts with a selected group of lead-users and experts in a Rooftop co-creation session. This time, they will take it a step further: they will share their ideas and concepts with the complete Maemo Community, both online and off-line, to collaboratively develop new Maemo concepts. This is a very exiting step for Nokia, as well as for the Maemo Community, who has reacted very enthusiastic on the prospect of being closely involved.
For Fronteer, it is also a step further in co-creation. We are combining online open innovation with off-line expert co-creation, while continuously sharing all results online. It will be an ongoing circle of creativity, fresh input and results, taking the concept further with every step. Everything will be shared. Everything will be continuously commented on. 16.000 people are involved. It’s going to be extremely dynamic. Exiting!
